Need any more Christmas card ideas??

By | October 20, 2014

Every month, I hold two regular classes – my Fast and Fabulous class where we make four cards that are not too labour intensive and my Technique class where we make two or three cards that focus on a particular technique or that may just take a bit more time.

This month, in our Technique class, we focussed on the Emboss Resist technique.  This is where you add colour over an embossed image and the embossed area resists the colour.  This can create a beautiful effect.

Here are the cards we made this month.  The first card in Night of Navy is a gorgeous card that I CASED from US demo, Elisabeth Hurst.

Stampin' Up Bright and Beautiful Seaonally Scattered Emboss Resist-001

I think the Seasonally Scattered set is crying out for this technique. I embossed the Merry in clear on Whisper white, then I sponged Lost Lagoon in the centre to make the letters stand out and then blended Pool Party around the edges. As with all sponging, just take the excess off first to get a smoother finish and go easy! You can always add more but if you put too much colour on at the beginning, you can’t take it off.

I then cut it out with the largest framelit from Apothecary Accents and you can just about see a flash of the lovely Lost Lagoon ribbon from our Seasonal catalogue.  I also used the ‘Merry Christmas’ from our promotional Good Greeting set and masked off the Merry so as I could add on a ‘Christmas’ underneath.  This set is only available with a qualifying order until the end of the month, you can read more about it here.

The final card was just to show that you don’t need to stick to white and clear, metallics are another colour to use in this technique.
I embossed the star from right and Beautiful with gold and then sponged over it with Cherry Cobbler. I finished it off with a sequin and a rhinestone coloured with our Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities markers. I’m afraid the sentiment does come from a retired set but there are plenty in this year’s collection that would look just as good.

I hope you like today’s cards and if you have any questions, do leave a comment below. I also love to hear your thoughts and where you are from. I can see I get views from lots of far-flung places, such as Brazil, the US, Canada, Russia to name but a few, as well as many closer to home so would love to hear where you are from.

As always here is a list of everything used in today’s cards.

Until next time, happy crafting,

Eimear
