It’s Technique Tuesday and tonight’s class was all about sponging! This is one of three cards we made in tonight’s class.
I will admit sponging is a bit of a learning curve but I do love the effects. The one thing to remember is to take off the excess ink on a piece of scrap paper first. I suppose it’s a bit like taking up blusher or bronzer on a make-up brush (sorry guys!) and tapping off the excess before applying. This avoids the more ‘grainy’ texture and gives a much more even effect. Then sponge from the outside of your card towards the inside in a circular motion.
Firstly, I stamped my images from White Christmas with Memento ink.
I then cut out a circle from a scrap piece of card with the 2 1/2 inch circle punch and then used this card as my mask template. I started with Lost Lagoon around the outside, then Soft Sky and ended with some Blushing Bride.
I added a little snowman from the same set and coloured his scarf with Soft Sky and Blushing Bride. I added some snow down the side in the same shade as the base card which is Pool Party and added some Frosted Sequins and a piece of silver ribbon for a little added interest.
I hope you like it, I certainly had fun coming up with the idea of the card. Do leave a comment as would love to know your thoughts.
If you would like to recreate a similar card, here is a list of everything I used to make it.
Hello there! I’m using this stamp set for the first time this year and saw your cards. I love all of them. For this particular one with the merry Christmas in between the trees, did your sigh fit perfectly in between the trees? Mine don’t and I’m wondering if I need to cut the stamp or something. Hope you can help. Thank you so much!
Yes it does and there should be no need to cut the stamp. Perhaps you are stretching the tree stamp out too far?? There should be a hill between them like you see in my card. Also the best place to try and fit the banner is exactly where I’ve put it. So just check the branches… Let me know if I can help any further…
