Birthday Blooms for CAS#155 and GDP#018

By | January 11, 2016

I’m loving Birthday Blooms  – for someone who doesn’t really like floral images, there is just something about this stamp set!

I’ve decided to combine two challenges this week – a colour challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches and a sketch challenge at Global Design Project.

Here are the criteria:

CC&S color155-001

GDP018

And here is the card I came up with

Stampin Up Birthday Blooms #GDP018-001

Now I do realise that Smoky Slate leaves are not exactly botanically correct, but as my husband never lets the truth get in the way of a good story, I thought I wouldn’t let the truth get in the way of a good card!!

The image is embossed in white on watercolour paper and then coloured with an aqua painter in the CAS Challenge colours.

I didn’t want to use the entire image on the stamp – just the larger bloom. So I fussy cut the bloom along with it’s lower leaves. I did actually add in a couple of extra leaves.  I remember seeing a card by GDP DT member Brian King where he had also added in a couple of extra leaves.  Don’t you just hate when someone is right?!! Brian, you were indeed totally right, it did look as if it were going to fly off without the grounding of a couple of extra leaves!!

I hope you like my card today, do leave me a comment and if you are in the UK, France, Germany, Holland or Austria and would like to purchase any of the items used in today’s card, then just click below and it wll bring you straight to my online shop.

Until next time, happy crafting.

I love the subtle shading of the colors in the flower! You did a beautiful job with that! It’s a lovely card (even if the leaves aren’t exactly true to nature, lol)! Thanks for sharing it with us at CC&S. 🙂

Thanks Patricia the colours had me stumped until I pulled out Birthday Blooms, but I’m quite pleased with the result.

Oh Eimear, this card is just too beautiful! I love everything about it… and I’m on your side about snipping off those extra fussy little leaf/bloom bits. I haven’t made a project yet where I’ve kept them on! Thanks so much for joining us again at the Global Design Project!

Thank you Jess I felt a bit mean snipping them off but this card definitely looks better without them!

That stamp is gorgeous and it looks so delicate watercoloured in our challenge colours. I thought at first glance that it had been stamped on vellum. Great use of our colours at CC&S, thanks for sharing. Stef x

Your flower stamp looks absolutely exquisite in the CC&S colours – and never mind that it’s not botanically correct, so nature didn’t get in first for once! Thanks for playing.

Haha, I love the reason you added the extra leaves Eimear! Botanically correct or not, I love the colours you chose from the other challenge to do your card in. It is a beauty. Thanks for playing at Global Design Project with us this week.

Thanks Paula. Once I snipped off the other blooms in the design, the flower looked like it was about to fly away with little angel wings!! Oooh, there’s a thought for another card!!
