Lets Get Hopping 21 – A tale of two sketches in our sketch challenge!

By | June 17, 2019

This month at Let’s Get Hopping we are having a sketch challenge.  We each picked a sketch and we created two cards with this one sketch.  I must admit, it’s been a really fun challenge for me and I can’t wait to see what everyone came up with.  My original plan was to flip the sketch and twist it, but in the end I kept pretty much to the sketch and just totally changed the supplies.

I did have a practise with this idea and created two cards from the same layout last week.  However, I had kept to the same suite and the same style.  This time, I went for a totally different style.

First of all, here’s the sketch that I found on Pinterest from Freshly Made Sketches.

And here is the first sketch I came up with using the amazing Magnolia Lane DSP.  Unfortunately, I can’t justify buying absolutely everything (I wish !) in the catalogue, so I don’t have the bundle itself. But I make sure that I get involved in DSP shares as I really want to have every paper in the catalogue – Stampin’ Up make such fabulous papers!

The paper is just fab – some of it floaty and feminine whilst some of it is dark and mysterious! The bloom was fussy cut and the sentiment from Free as a Bird heat embossed in white.

For the second version, I chose one of the Come Sail Away papers with the sextants and other ships instruments on it. I chose a very neutral palette with Basic Black and Smoky Slate but added some Silver and Black Foil for a little visual interest.

I just love the seaweed die and especially being able to die-cut the compass needle – such a fun element to add to a project!

So, here are the two cards together. Whilst similar, the DSP makes them look very very different indeed.  Which is your favourite?

Oh Eimear! Both cards are awesome, but that magnolia, ooh la la! I love how you showcased the single flower with the vellum circle.
