Saying Goodbye to our Large Letter Dies for Lets Get Hopping 20

By | May 2, 2019

Welcome to this month’s Lets Get Hopping Blog Hop where we are sharing our favourite colouring techniques.  I love using sponges – whether it be sponge brayers or sponge daubers and on this project I have used both.  The Large Letter Dies are retiring very soon so I couldn’t resist giving them one last outing  on this project.

I had two sources of inspiration for this project.  Firstly, I had some flowers left over from my Fancy Card Swap from Onstage.  I just loved creating the two tone flowers by stamping into Melon Mambo and then taking a sponge dauber and colouring the edge of the stamp with Gorgeous Grape.

Secondly, my daughter loves watching quick craft videos on Youtube – she showed me a piece of home decor where they had used a stencil and then spray-painted a frame.  This gave me the idea to create a mini version with our products as a surprise for her.  She’s on her way home from school as I type and I cant wait to see her face!

To create the background,  I used my sponge brayer on Shimmery White cardstock and coloured diagonally from one side in Gorgeous Grape fading towards the middle.  The other side was sponged with Melon Mambo also fading towards the middle where both colours merged and blended.

I then cut out her name using the Large Letter Dies – (it’s an Irish name pronounced Eefa). Behind my coloured front is a piece of Sparkles Gimmer.

Before I put the frame together, I hooked up a set of tiny fairy lights.  I used glue dots to hide the wires – but depends on the angle of the photo as I can see one peeking through in my photo above.

It was a little hard to photograph but here is the lit up version.  I really hope she likes it.

And finally, here is a list of all the products I used on todays project.  Do remember that the Large Letters are retiring and will not be available in the new catalogue.  I absolutely adore them and will not be getting rid of mine any time soon!  Our Tropical Chic bundle is carrying over but will no longer be available in a bundle saving 10%.  As always, don’t forget to use my current Rainbow Rewards Shopping code at checkout and as a thank you, I will send you a little gift in the post directly from me.

Until next time, happy crafting

what a fantastic piece of decor! I ‘ve never done with the lights before but would love to. Are the lights switchable? I love how you stamped the flower. Beautiful effect.

Yes the switch feeds outside the box – the word is so thin that you don’t need an extra hole. I glued the actual switch to the top of the box x

The fairy lights blew me away. Pretty piece in the day, but come night, it turns magical. And a great décor piece that not outgrow your daughter. I bet she was so happy when she got home…
