Candy Cane Season for Lets Get Hopping 15

By | November 8, 2018

Welcome to this month’s Let’s Get Hopping Blog Hop where our theme is Anything but a card for Christmas. We are focussing on all things Christmas though anything but a card! I decided to make my kids a little treat box to hang on their doorknobs for Christmas and used the fabulous Candy Cane Season which handily comes with a coordinating punch.

We live in a really old house and none of our doors are traditional door handles – instead we have latches!  However, we go to my parent’s house for Christmas and luckily have standard doors where I can hang these pretty little treat boxes.

The only door with a standard handle is the door to my craft room – so thought I would show you how it hangs in real life!  Not the best picture – apologies!

I had hoped that somewhere in my stash I would have a real Candy Cane but it appears that I am not yet prepared for the festive season!! However, Candy Cane Season allowed me to not only stamp and punch out a Candy Cane.  There is also an adorable stamp with two canes in the shape of a heart.  I used these to stamp the tissue paper.  This is the perfect addition to this project – in fact stamping your tissue paper is the perfect addition to any gift packaging. Have you tried it yet?

Tips and Tricks for my Candy Cane Season Door Hanger

  • Firstly decide how wide and deep your box should be.  Mine measures 2.5 x 1 – So, it total it measures 6 inches with an extra half inch to secure it. Then the box is 9.5 inches high.
  • To strengthen the box I adhered DSP the full length of the inside – even though it can’t really be seen.
  • I also adhered the DSP before I die cut a circle to allow the treat box to be hung on a door.
  • I love using dimensionals to create some visual interest so my various elements are all at different levels.
  • My final layer and greeting is popped up – simply by means of scoring.

And a final shot of a close-up of the various little elements – I do love my Stitched Shape Framelits!!

What a gorgeous idea Eimear. We have a Christmas fairy that visits our house in the weeks before Christmas. These would be perfect for the fairy to leave notes in.

This an adorable treat holder, Eimear. The decorated tissue paper is a lovely touch. I am sure my kids would love it but our house has some years on and doesn’t have typical doorknobs either. The holders would have to be travelling ones as well.
