Lets Get Hopping 32 – Scrap it with Punch Art

By | June 15, 2020

Welome to this month’s Lets Get Hopping Blog Hop where our theme is Scrap it!  You may have arrived from Alicia, who I know had a smashing project for you or this may well be our first stop. Either way you are very welcome, with me, Eimear Carvill, as I show you a little Punch Art and some fabulous dies that will use up your scraps.

I don’t know about you but I do try to be ruthless with scraps otherwise they can take over.  Whilst I dream of a Crisp White Shiny (tidy!!) craft room, mine is a little more thrift store and filing cabinets.  I keep my cardstock in hanging drawers in my filing cabinets and each colour file has a little poly pocket full of scraps.  I do try to keep them larger than an inch – otherwise as I say they seems to breed and have a life of their own!!

Project No. 1 Punch Art

A perfect use for scraps is to create Punch Art projects (though there are a few circle dies used in this one). I really love creating Punch Art projects and often make birthday cards for my children featuring this style. I made this recently for a Pilot friend.  He flies the Dragon Lady aka U2 and I used various scraps of Basic Black to make this card.  The U2 is an amazing aircraft and flies right on the edge of space, hence the background – he has some truly amazing photographs!! This card is based on a photo he showed us.

I created the background by masking off an area with a scrap go grid paper and sponging first some Pacific Point at the edge and then using my Sponge Brayer and some Night of Navy for the rest of the sky. I strengthened the colour the closer I got to the edge of the Whisper White piece.  To recreate the earth, I sponged Old Olive, Pacific Point, and Crumb Cake.

Project No. 2  – Using Scraps with small dies

Another great reason to keep scraps is to have the perfect size for our smallest dies.  You don’t want to be slicing into a brand new sheet of A4 for dies this size.  So to make this card, out came my little poly pocket in various greens.  It was also handy to keep the off-cuts you get when cutting a card front.  This was the perfect size for my sentiment.

I hope you enjoyed my two projects today – wildly different but both making a great use of my scrap pile. Do hop on to Tracy, who is going to have you creating a new file for all your scraps!

Here are all the products I used in my cards today.

Wow! That airplane is so creative! I agree about the scraps taking on a life of their own…sometimes, as hard as it is, I just have to dump my scrap bin and start over.
